Gold in Yakima

After a very disappointing home tournament last week, where the girls played so below their ability, lost focus and came in 7th, they redeemed their hearts and courage, and won the gold this past weekend in Yakima.  The best part was they looked so much like they had regained their love of the game and just had such fun playing together.  They were undefeated in pool play, except for a 2 of 3 loss to Spokane's "Side Out".  They went into the semi-final match against the host Team Yakima and pulled out a humongous win against the favored home team winning 25-14 and 25-10.  I have never seen a team fall apart so badly.  When the score was 10-2, that team just looked devastated already.  We heard a lot of comments around about how this team never loses and that they needed a defeat because their egos were getting a bit ahead of themselves. That was so very obvious to us too.  The coach was overheard telling his team to, "wake me up when this is over".  Well we woke them up alright!  I shouldn't giggle inside, but I do.  We overheard a college coach say, "I heard Kelowna gave them a good spanking, and they needed it".

Our K'Roos went into the exciting final match against Side Out, the only team that had beaten us so far, where we each won a set, and went into the 3rd tie breaker set.  Our team was up 14-7 and lost the lead, with them tying the game up at 14-14.  It went back a forth, with Erin making 2 awesome blocks giving us the 17-16 lead, then she was up to serve for the match point.  I couldn't watch!!!  The serve was in, but we lost that point, but ended up winning the match 19-17!  Too exciting! For a team of super level headed, even keeled, not much emotion kind of girls, it was awesome to see them jumping up and down!

You think I should be a sports writer?
Erin's coach told her the Wenatchee College scout was asking after her.

That's awesome! And fun that a college scout was asking about her ... a scholarship would be good.

Yep, we're seriously counting on some scholarships with the cost of university now!
