Proud Mom

I'll brag momentarily (well maybe I do that more than momentarily).  Sorry if I bore you.  It just amazes me that God gave me these 2 kids to be the Mom of!!  I'm blessed.

Jacob came home with almost all straight A's on his report card.  I am so proud of this guy because it's been a super challenging year in many ways at school, but academically he's risen to the challenge, getting lots of A's even in English this year.  His teachers love him and his generous, compassionate spirit and he is well respected by his peers, which tells a big story of his heart.

Erin won some awards the other night, mostly science, but also sewing!  I love this photo because out of 400 grade 11s, this is the group that has a 4.0 GPA overall and 9 of them are in her friend group.  They are just a great group of teenagers!!

Out for dinner tonight to celebrate! Oh ya, and yeah another reason to not have to cook!

Summer? Where are you??

I am longing for sunshine!!  My garden is overcome with weeds.  I 'm tired of the van smelling like wet and stinky soccer gear.  Erin and I spent the day yesterday at Skaha Beach in Penticton, soaking up the.... pouring rain!  She attended a Pro Beach event. Super fun, minus the flooding and rain.  They had to stop the tournament for about 20 minutes for lightning coming up the lake.  Not too safe with all the metal net standards and tent awnings.  But they carried on shortly after.  So glad I threw in that umbrella and rain coat at the last minute!  This was at the peak of rainyness!

Her and her partner (not her usual partner) came in 9th out of 14 teams and even beat a couple women's teams.  There were a few pairs from their 17U Summer Games training team that went along as well to even out their competition.  I didn't get a shot of them completely muddy at the end of the day.

Answer to the last post quiz (I know you're dying to know)  1. Kevin 2. Jacob  3. Erin  4. Me

Men and like Waffles, Women are like Spaghetti

I don't know if you've ever read that book, I actually haven't, just heard about it.  It talks about the differences between people, specifically men and women.  People are so fascinating to me, and how different they can be from each other, and yet how I enjoy so many different types.  It amazes me the creativity of God in creating everyone so unique.  I love the 4 sitting around my table.  I just got a chuckle this morning out of the different waffle creations at the table.  Kind of says something about their personalities.  Can you guess whose belongs to who? (or is that whom?)

1. Heavy on the Protein

2. The Pile Up

3. Whipped Cream Laden Delight

4. Blueberry in the Holes

God in the Room

I stood in the middle of a 4 bed room with my "crazy" patient.  I call her crazy in the most loving terms, really she has some psychiatric issues, and the nurses have become attached to her silly, childlike antics, and have had varying reactions to her constant talk of the devil and death, and being buried 15 feet under, and she wants to know,  "Am I going to die?" she looks at me with old, bright blue eyes that hold the innocence of someone about 7.

Her eyes light up as the "elders" come in for a visit.  Her sister had sent them, thinking they could pray some sense into her, or maybe some hope.  The 3 tall, well dressed, handsome, Mormon men stand there a bit perplexed, 2 of them barely 18, and on their year long mission for the church.  She stares at me straight up and asks, "Do you believe in the elders?"  They try not to look at me, but wait for a response, a little uncomfortable with her question.  I laugh and make a joke, smiling at them, "Well I believe that they are standing right here in this room".  They walk with her and pray with her, she comes back beaming and hopeful,  that they have healed her.  I tuck her into bed, while they start to visit with the lady in the next bed, a curtain separating our conversations. She babbles a few words about God.  "Do you believe in the elders?" she asks again.  No,  I say,  but I do believe in God, and His power and she wants to know that I pray every day.  "Thank you Angel", it's what she always calls me, now even a bit more fitting after God entered this room... but He was here long before the elders showed up.

My LPN is all a little flabbergasted as we continue with her dressings, not sure we should be in here as they start to pray and lay hands on the neighbor one bed over.  "Oh they're praying"  I tell her, "it's OK we can be here".
Interrupted, she looks me in the eye and says, "You have the death pills here don't you?  You could just give me one, can't you Angel?"  We tell her that we are here to make her better, to make her whole and able to go back home.  There is only one way she can be made whole, and He's standing right in this room, I can feel His presence thick like a warm blanket.

For your Daily Reading Enjoyment.... O

Well this is NOT the cake that Erin had on her real birthday:

But isn't it amazing!  Some girlfriends and I took Erin to a cake auction fundraiser event the day before Erin's birthday, hoping to bring one home, and this is the cake we wanted!  I took the 1st bid, and then it got WAY too expensive for me!!  It ended up selling for $2000!!  Can you believe it?  Totally amazing for the Pregnancy Care Center!  Erin is totally donating a cake next year with her amazing talents!  Would be really cool to see how much it would sell for.

This is the cake she ended up with:
..and where is she? I have no idea.. as soon as we lit the candles, she took off and KD graciously agreed to stand in til she came back.  Don't worry, he didn't blow them out, she had the honors, no boyfriends!!  Phew.. another year not to worry :)

You also may be wondering how a guinea pig ends up peeing on your homework... literally.. no word of a lie!!

Well when he's right up there in the poster making action, things can happen.

So.... yesterday's meeting with the coach was amazing!  Nothing official yet, but hopefully by the end of the summer, we'll know a little more.  Who knew they'd be recruiting players this far ahead, we're a little clueless when it comes to these sorts of things.  I know lots of players are sending out e-mails and DVDs to prospective schools already, but we feel like this blessing has just been given to her!  Keeping a lid on things for awhile yet except to you my faithful blog readers.

And for some more reading enjoyment, especially Tara and Missy, not you Olivia sorry :).  Erin was cracking up at these.  I particularly like # 136, 156, and 176.  What is a good response for? "Wow, you're tall":
"Gee you're short."
"Oh, did you know you're balding?"
"Why, thank you"
