All Moved in

It took all of about an hour for JC to realize the fort potential of the new bed! It's a wonderland of fun under there!

Want to peek inside? The LEGO has been confined-- for now! Success!

Figured the dresser might as well be Dragon Fire as well- that's for you Randi!

How can it be that it seems like just yesterday I finished high school and now my daughter, who was just like this:

the last time I turned around, is choosing her high school courses for the fall? Oh high school... such memories.. the friends and fashions.. the pain.. the awkwardness.. the family upheaval. I've been thinking about it, and how I am so different than I was then, thankfully. How I'd like to go back and apologize to a few people, and then get out of there fast!!

English 10 Honours, Math 10 Honours, Science 10 Honours, Social 10, Foods and Textiles 10, PE 10, Spanish 11, and 2 electives still to choose. Sounds like some good choices she's making. Poor thing is panicked that she has to choose what she wants to be in life this weekend, because it'll decide the path to take. The school has so many excellent choices that are 1st year university or BCIT trade courses that will allow students to be able to skip some courses later on, if you choose post-secondary education. Grade 10 is fairly standard in terms of what you need to graduate. Starting in grade 11, the sciences divide into 5 different areas (marine biology takes a "field trip" to Hawaii), and the math divides again into university or general math. We just encourage her to keep as many options open as possible. Like who wants to take math later on when you're 25?

It's amazing to think this has happened already! I know every parents muses that their little girl is growing up so fast. So cliche, but she- my little one- that is 5'8" now is grown all up!

This Week in the Garden

Spring??
Despite Tuesday morning's snow fall, the first since December, most of us think spring is on the way. Here's a little bit of proof: daffodils poking their lazy heads from the earth.

Space...

Inspired by Randi's amazing homemade new kitchen table and then by spending like an hour on the blog she found it on, I figured it was time to do something around this place. So my vision soon became Kevin's weekend project. I'm glad he's so obliging (it's more a matter of me saying I'm making a bed and Kevin saving me or not trusting me with the power tools, I'm OK with it!). Jacob's room frustrates me to no end. I am so happy that he does keep his Lego mostly inside the door, but it makes it almost always nearly impossible to walk in there. Frequently I remind myself that he needs to be a boy, to create, to be able to leave his creations for the next time (because there always is one with him), to not have my standards applied to his space, to be a little messy because next time I turn around he'll be off to college - where he can pick up his own socks :) But space has always been an issue for him.

So we turned the regular old pine Ikea bed into this with a few modifications and $24 worth of 2x4's.

Jacob chose "Dragon's Fire" orange to go with the "Fresh Lime" of the walls. A nice match if I do say so!

Today I'm thankful ....
...for a handy husband, a smart and lovely daughter, and a funny and heart sensitive son
...a "going to high school" meeting that makes me feel really old and like my job is yet so unfinished
...chocolate chip cookies
...paramedics who take 12 minutes to get to the soccer field (not for me)
...my annual trip to Dr. this morning- yippee- but for good health care

Finally... maybe

Kevin has gotten "the CALL" that we've been waiting for months to get. He's on right now! We're hopeful. We have kept being hopeful because they keep stringing us along, so we'll be praying today!

Gratitude Monday

I know I missed last week, I was thankful in my mind...really I was...

91. no work booked for 2 weeks, I'm up for a bit of a break, although I haven't been working overly too much lately, it's just a good time for it
92. my 3 Valentines!!!
93. coming out of my Friday night shift at 2315 after dealing with CRAZY people, puking people, drunk, falling down the stairs people with broken faces all night, and finding my car stuffed with so many balloons I couldn't even get in :) There was a safety pin attached to the card for help :) I felt a little silly when I screamed (quietly) in the street popping the first one.
94. waking up Saturday morning to the sounds of clattering in the kitchen and heart shaped pancakes and hot chocolate on the table, Kevin still in bed too :)
95. a great dinner out to eat PUB food last night, mmmm... ribs and chicken wings, fries...still feel OK this morning, thanks gall bladder.... oh right I don't have one of those.. more thankful
96. that Jacob didn't break anything in his collision with Ditto that knocked him flat onto his back. I hate that dog, I'm still mad at him! I'm working on those ungodly emotions
97. for all A's on a report card
98. a Christmas cactus that still blooming and blooming it's little heart out on the window sill
99. a beautiful, sweet, gorgeous daughter that defines a friend as "someone you can talk to". I think that's the best definition ever!
100. boys on the street who beg to shoot hoops on our driveway and aren't sure if they are allowed when we're not home -- they are
101. Olympic spirit and fun sports to watch on TV
102. on sale jeans in size 25"35"
103. 2 web site design jobs for Kevin, and one computer geek support afternoon that was also web design support, maybe he should go into it on the side.
104. piles of laundry to do today... so I can stay home and wait for it and do nothing :) I feel so VERY grateful for hot running water today. It's so easy for us to do these tasks. Kevin's Gramma had to go outside in Saskatchewan winters to pump water from the pump, haul it inside, chop the wood, make a fire, boil the water, to wash diaper for twins and another one in cloth diapers, and then they pee again :) And we call ourselves housewives? What they wouldn't have done for a quick e-mail from a friend to encourage them in their day? Oh the isolation...

Have a good Monday, do a little laundry, be encouraged, send a friend an encouraging e-mail.

holy experience

Legal Obligations

Well since KD is home, I guess "they" somehow found out and summoned him for jury duty. Maybe he could make a career out of it since it pays $20 a day!

She's # 1

Erin's team had their first set of games today after a month of super intense practices. The first game was a bit of figuring out the new rotation, but then they picked up the pace and won half their games. They had fun together and learned a lot. Look at all those tall, gorgeous, long legged girls! She's a middle blocker.
